There are two sayings in the marine industry:
1) A boat is a hole in the water into which one sinks money
2) B.O.A.T. = Break out another thousand.
I am not trying to discourage you from purchasing a vessel, but want to be sure that you consider your budget when tempted to go for that "good deal" on that "fixer-upper"!
There are many good used boats out there that can be purchased for a fair price although they need a little work. You may even find a "great deal" on a boat that needs a lot of work.
Be an educated consumer and think safety first.
1) The hull and structure of the vessel must be sound.
In otherwords, the boat must float. Holes in the hull
can be repaired, but if you purchase a boat with
this type of problem, don't be tempted to cut
corners to save money. And fix the hull & structural
defects first!
2) Be sure safety equipment included in the
purchase is functioning properly. Buy required safety
equipment needed and learn proper vessel operation.
Check the links I put on the safety page to get educated
on what you will need.
3) You can surf my boating links to find out how much
a vessel of the age, brand and size you are
considering purchasing will go for and compare it
to the price asked by the seller. They have "find a
vessel for sale" and "boat classifieds" to help you decide.
